Welcome to the Lowy Biorepository
Tumour tissue banks are vital for cancer research.
The Lowy Biorepository is a purpose-built, state of the art biorepository facility for the reception and processing of human biospecimens. The Lowy Biorepository contains biospecimens, including blood and tissue samples, taken with consent from both healthy individuals and patients diagnosed with cancer. Clinical information from the donors is also collected and linked to the specimens via a secure, web-accessible database.
The Lowy Biorepository aims to provide translational cancer researchers with high quality biospecimens and related clinical data, in order to facilitate discoveries that will lead to improvements in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We are housed in the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Australia.
The HSA Biobank
The Health Science Alliance (HSA) Biobank is an initiative of the Translational Cancer Research Network that commenced specimen collection in April 2012 and is housed within the Lowy Biorepository. The HSA Biobank is collecting and storing biospecimens and associated information from consenting participants undergoing surgery or other procedures at hospitals within the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). It is a unique and varied collection of biospecimens and associated data that is available to all researchers undertaking HREC-approved studies.
Researchers can apply for access to this large and ongoing resource through the Lowy Biorepository.
